Take Me to Eden

Take Me to Eden is a series of twelve drawings and three sculptures that I made while creating a symbolic language to communicate the spiritual questions and encounters I have experienced. The installation of drawings and sculpture poses the question: how do we become? This project examines the role of the Biblical creation story in the experience of my becoming.

In order to examine the impacts of the Biblical creation story on my life, I expanded my assumptions of what the garden of Eden could be to include the wild West Coast of my childhood. This project defines gardens as symbolic sites of care where interactions between humans and the environment become profound, creative, and impact the future.

I have called the series of twelve drawings Prologue/Epilogue. In the context of this project, prologue represents the stories that have come before me and shaped me while epilogue represents the collisions of past, present, and future which is the present event of my becoming. This exhibition showcases the collisions of my becoming by combining drawings made from the contents of my memories with symbolic imagery inspired by Christian iconography to create a current picture of my state of being.
